The Sunday paper told me I should think about the world
I called the climate hotline in a flash
For sixteen pounds a month with Gift Aid I'm told that I can help
Cos all the global crisis needs is cash
The shots of drowning polar bears were just too much to take
So now I watch the labels when I shop
Nothing makes the basket if it doesn't do some good
Cos I just want the nasty stuff to stop
I'm trying to make a difference by watching what I buy
But I can't beat the system no matter how I try
It's all designed to make me think I'm saving Planet Earth
But everything I spend just makes the situation worse
My pasta's all organic and my meat's from local farms
I mince around the market like a toff
I separate my rubbish into coloured plastic tubs
Then drive for half an hour to drop it off
I'm trying to make a difference by watching what I buy
But I can't beat the system no matter how I try
It's all designed to make me think I'm saving Planet Earth
But everything I spend just makes the situation worse
It's nice to know I'm helping in my own material way
Certain that the world will live to see another day
I think we've found the answer but it's not for me to say
It feels a little warmer, but surely that's ok?
I'm trying to make a difference by watching what I buy
But I can't beat the system no matter how I try
It's all designed to make me think I'm saving Planet Earth
But everything I spend just makes the situation worse
