2009-04-15 Celebrity flattening explained
From Walkerpedia
This was originally sent to my email subscribers as part of my Tuesday emails series.
It's said that social media flattens the relationships we have with famous people. It's true, it's scary and it's not necessarily a good thing.
This Tuesday email is about celebrity. But it's Wednesday. Forgive me - I have a man-cold.
It's easy to make a point when you have good examples:
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall
I emailed River Cottage yesterday morning. They emailed back. It turns out Hugh and his crew had seen my Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall song and loved it. He's going to do something fun to help out with Ben's Big Gig.
Point: Hugh's on TV. I'm on YouTube. Not so different these days.
Demi Moore
Someone sent Demi Moore a link to my Twitter song yesterday (she's @mrskutcher on Twitter). She reposted it with the message "Hilarious!". 3,000 people listened to it in 3 hours. Demi is unlikely to help out with Ben's Big Gig, but if you had told me back in the late 80s that the sexy troubled girl from St Elmo's Fire would one day say my song was hilarious, I'd have eaten my propellor hat.
Point: Twitter has an enormous reach. And I'm hilarious.
Ben's Big Gig
Check out the latest update on http://ihatemornings.com to see all the cool things I've been up to since last week (mainly rehearsals and postering). If you want to come to my Big Gig on May 1st in Oxford, now is the time to buy tickets. No amount of washed-up-celebrity love is going to fill 200 seats. ;)

That is all. Have a splendid week, and I'll see you next Tuesday for more social media fun!
Ben
